Warning: Includes NSFW lyrics. Some flashing text (no jump scares or anything like that, though). Philosophical and video-spoiling musings below. --- The fact that I included some real life footage is something of an acknowledgement that, well, I’m making this really satiric video -- but I actually enjoyed Rainbow Rocks myself, and that’s, ah, hypocritical, so I guess I was sucked in too. Creating anything for an audience is a form of emotional manipulation, and that’s not all bad. The EQG series is undoubtedly a cash grab. And yet they seem to be making something pretty good with it now, actually. But then you look at stuff like the Friendship Rainbow Kingdom Castle, and you remember some of the negative manipulative aspects of MLP, and the EQG movies have more of that than the original with things like Flash Sentry. I tried to stress the original show as the “good guy” here, because it’s not necessarily MLP that is the big problem, but the culture around some of girls’ media. The kind of stuff Lauren Faust tried to stop. And she definitely helped, oh, she helped, but even now there’s still places where they’ll repeat this stuff. Song is “Repeat Stuff” by Bo Burnham. Sorry Bo for hijacking your song about exploitative teen pop and using it for my own metaphors. Hope you don’t mind.
