EDIT: EQD again? Sweet! http://www.equestriadaily.com/2013/05/music-of-day-109.html I almost didn't upload this. Not because I think it's horrible or anything (I'm actually relatively pleased with it) but because I was concerned that people wouldn't like it since it's not as slick and flashy as my other uploads and that listeners are probably expecting music more like that. Then I realized that I was just making assumptions and I won't know how people would react unless I uploaded it. So here's a lengthy winter-themed piano sonata just in time for spring! It took quite some time to get to this stage. It's not the work of a master but it was a good experience and, I believe, a significant improvement over my last two pieces in terms of composition. Nevertheless, it was tricky trying to write a sonata that captured something as abstract as nature while still maintaining unity over more than thirteen minutes. Still, I enjoyed working on this and I do hope you enjoy listening to it. If you do then I can see about uploading more solo piano stuff down the line (but definitely more in the 4-6 minute range). I had hoped to get this finished by the end of April but after getting some feedback I ended up making some major changes and I feel it is better as a result. By the way, do you have any idea how tedious it is to fine-tune a 14-minute song? I also spent far too much time trying to come up with a snazzy, clever title but in the end simplicity and succinctness won out. And, yes, I am aware that the cover art has been used more than once before but I spent quite a bit of time looking and couldn't find anything else that suited the feeling I was trying to go for as well as this. It would be impertinent for me not to thank Dr Dissonance and the guys at MLR for all of their advice (and patience). In the middle of writing this I found out that someone had a similar idea ahead of me, even (albeit briefly) using the same cover art. Check it out! It's considerably better than this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MRzOWNVTTI Cover art is courtesy of http://quasdar.deviantart.com Download (WAV): https://soundcloud.com/callenby/forest-and-snow Download (MP3 and others): https://pony.fm/tracks/731-forest-and-snow --------------------------------------------------------------------------- This was made with Finale 2012c and Kontakt 5, though I usually use Cubase Artist 7 (with Kontakt 5).
