Well, here it is... Hello! I've decided to try my hand at making music for a great character. This is the the first piece I have ever "released", and something I've been hoping to do for a while now. I love a good waltz, and while this isn't one I hope it might still help make up for a deficit of them in this fandom. Truth be told, I'm not happy with how this turned out. Not at all, really. It's sloppy, pedestrian, and there's very little music theory to be found but I've spent far too much time on it already and I would like it to just be done and move on to other things. It was a very educational and valuable experience, though, so I guess I can't really complain. Maybe if I get better at composing I'll revisit it at some point. Maybe. Don't hold me to that. Besides, I'm an amateur so amateur work is only to be expected. So much fantastic music has been made by others and, in the face of all of it, this is just paltry. But every journey begins with a first step, right? There are a couple of reasons why I decided to attempt writing music for this fandom, especially since there is no dearth of other aspiring musicians. For one, I hope to improve my craft because there is still so very, very much for me to learn if I'm going to keep pursuing this (let me repeat if). For another, I've taken so much from the community and this, I hope, can be my way of starting to repay some of that debt. The timing also just seems right for me. Finally, one thing that would make it all worthwhile for me is to be able to write music that is as enjoyable and meaningful to others as others' music has been to me. This piece was inspired quite a bit by the wonderful Eugen Doga, whose work I sadly only recently discovered. I dislike being influenced too much by any one thing or person but he composes exactly the way I would like to; it's so sparse yet so rich. I hope I've succeeded in making something unique because I'm not really trusting my ears right now. On the other hand, I can't really expect to find my own voice/style/whatever right away. That sort of thing can't be forced, I suppose. Be sure to let me know what you think! Constructive feedback is always welcome for a terrible composer!
