Please Read: Not pony related but important to me for personal reasons. Also, the video explaining the hiatus and the end of it IS coming out this weekend. I got back from playing a con which derailed my plans but that's done with. Anyway, now for the important stuff: For those of you that may not know, today is the National Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day in which we mourn the people who have been murdered specifically for being transgender. This year the number was 73 since the last 20th of November, meaning that since then one has been murdered every 5 days. It is a grim reminder of where we stand as people but as depressing as it can be, it is important to mourn as a community and to be thankful for the friendships and successes we have had, as some were not so lucky. I really wanted to finish this song for today, but I was unable to. As it stands, this is just a demo of my idea, and could still use a lot of work, especially the vocals. That being said, I needed to put something out there today, for myself and to feel like I'm contributing to something very dear to me. Back in college I attended my first vigil for the Trans Day of Remembrance and I remember being struck by it all. There was a field filled with people holding candles in the dark as November winds and the first hints of snow drifted through the air. I forget who most of the speakers were but I remember a mother who talked about her child who had been murdered that year. She said that she never really understood the whole trans thing, but that she was humbled by the outpouring of support she had received by people who felt her loss as she did despite not being family. I knew back then that I needed to make a song about that moment, because it was the moment that it clicked that I was part of something much bigger than me. It gave me responsibility, it gave me a community, and it made me feel less alone than I had in a while. This song is about that. I may finish it by next year, but the overall quality of it is not important. What's important is the message, the feeling, and the chance to educate newcomers and to reach out to those who are currently going through what I was going through that day. A speaker hums off to the left, a mother exits to the right A microphone’s left unattended taking in the sight For every stranger in the crowd seems to disappear. Each one replaced before our eyes by those who are standing near. They’re holding hands, they’re praying soft, and through it all one thing is clear. There’s strangers all around the world but only family here. We’re left to sing the words that many left unsaid. We’ll mourn the ones we’ve lost but we’ll not let them fade. With every step we take we march towards a brighter day. With candlelight we’ll light the way. Obituaries line the walls of our history, Each day is paid in blood and with our dignity, We thirst for peace and love We thirst for peace of mind And we won’t be content till it’s satisfied. We’re smart enough to fear But fools enough to try To demand the normalcy which we’ve been denied Yeah we’ve been denied, we’ve been undermined, Each progress was hardfought so we keep in mind,
