For My Sister - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OslTss2f4ac After having such a grand time with all of my jazz endeavors, I bet the lot of you thought I'd given up on my classical pieces. Fear not, and have a listen to this final movement of the pony piano trio I began all those months ago, "Toccata d'Parasprite." Why the lowly parasprite as the inspiration for such a finale? Well for starters, I strongly associate this little menace with Pinkie Pie, the best pony of all ponies. But beyond that, the episode "Swarm of the Century" has such a dramatic little story arc which was ripe for setting to music. And if any character warranted a presto agitato, it's the Parasprite! Thematically, you should identify the tune for the "Parasprite Polka" right away as it is stated very bluntly, note for note in the introduction and again in the exposition. It serves as the basis for a series of torrential thematic variations spun as fast as the fingers can go. Musically, some different things happen. Though originally conceived in the truncated sonata form, I axed the big scary development I had written and instead wrote a "chorus" thanks to the influence of a song writing friend of mine. Listen carefully though; it's still the Parasprite Polka theme! Just a little more ravishing. Being a toccata proper, I'll pull no punches: this is murder on the fingers, but only in a few places. That should not distract from the musical qualities, nor take away from the emphatic conclusion which finally draws the work to close as the pinkie pied piper marches off Maestoso. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy "Toccata d'Parasprite"!
