We open Act 2 with a review of what has transpired over the year (Christmas to September) in the musical. The group is composed of three couples, Roger/Mimi (Twilight Sparkle/Rarity), Collins/Angel (Applejack/Rainbow Dash), and Joanne/Maureen (Rarity/Fluttershy). Mark (Pinkie Pie) remains alone, continuing to film for his documentary. Roger, Mimi, Collins and Angel also have HIV, "[their] last year on Earth."

This is the last relatively hopeful song for quite a while. Act 2 of Rent gets grim pretty quickly.
