U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon pilots from the 169th Fighter Wing, South Carolina Air National Guard and F-15 Strike Eagle Pilots from the 335th Fighter Squadron, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, N.C. practiced low-altitude, air-to-ground missile targeting of watercraft on Choctawhatchee Bay, near Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. on Mar. 13, 2017. The pilots are conducting a weeklong weapon systems evaluation at Tyndall Air Force Base called Combat Hammer. During this evaluation the pilots electronically target more than 30 civilian boats outfitted with simulated weapons. The mostly offseason fishing boats of varying sizes sail at speeds in excess of 20 knots and attempt to evade the aircraft with zigzag maneuvers providing a realistic target for the pilots and also provides training that applies to real-world situations they may face in combat.
