Talk Acanthi is a cool dude. You should probably definitely check out the original song which I sampled, and also his other music which is quite good.

=====

Over a year or so ago, on one of the spotlight posts on EqD that included one of my songs, I accidentally found a little song called "Somewhere I Belong" by, well, Talk Acanthi. It's been stuck in my head periodically ever since. It's so beautiful and completely nails the feeling that the original story, "Somewhere Only We Know" put forth. Dreams are something that fascinates me, as you may or may not have figured out, and really are a bit of a reoccurring theme in a lot of what I write.

I wanted to expand further upon the concept, and I got the idea to do so by standing on the shoulders of those before me, so to speak. Or... type. Whatever. So here it is. I am so happy with this song. c:

=====

LYRA-ICS:
[Verse 1:]
There between the mattress sheets
Anything could be.
Up in clouds, and floating somehow
Hours will power dreams

Confined, solace inside,
She's far away.
Color bright, enveloping sight-
She thinks she might stay...

(She might-
She might stay...
She might stay.)

Guard your heart, and fear the dark:
That societal invention, but they didn't mention any
Real reason, and this girl is so clever;
Their little front couldn't really last forever.
She knows of portals- massive, immortal,
To lands with the bluest skies, and she'll fly
Up and away. Now the party is starting at last light.
And she'll sleep tight.

[Chorus:]
I know my best friends but are they really there?
Do I pretend that I can fly with the wind blowing through my hair?
I have been living this dream for what feels like far too long,
But in the end it seems that this is somewhere I belong.

[Verse 2:]

This obsession is her profession.
Never question the dim procession.
Lost direction without correction.
And no protection from imperfection.

[solo]

She knows herself better than anyone else.
She hopes like hell she never loses that as well.
A broken spell, how could she EVER tell,
As without a knell, she never knew she even fell.

Another chapter, herein, hereafter,
Filled up with laughter the planet doesn't matter.
She feels fine it's
No more lies.
It's defiance.
She needs silence.

[Chorus]
I know my best friends but are they really there?
Do I pretend that I can fly with the wind blowing through my hair?
I have been living this dream for what feels like far too long,
But in the end it seems that this is somewhere I belong.
When I am here I can fly and make light and sound erupt,
But does the rainboom exist or did I just make it up?
I have been living this dream for what feels like far too long,
But in the end it seems that this is somewhere I belong.
